I dropped my sugar intake and these happened

(Disclaimer: I am no weight loss/muscle gain expert. Neither do I have a professional medicine/nutrition license. The things listed here are purely from my personal fitness experience. You may want to consult your trusted experts first before embarking on any fad diet).

I have been on no-to-low sugar intake since a Church initiative on wellness took place in the last quarter of 2017. Prior to this, I was struggling with post-pregnancy weight and self-esteem issues. I looked much older than my age and wore sizes thrice as much as I what I wore before marriage. Needless to say, I did not like who I was.

It was a hot, lazy Saturday afternoon when a couple of friends and I - all geared in workout clothes - headed to an indoor play area in Singapore's business district to meet with fitness coaches from the Philippines. These coaches were power couple Jeredan and Carla Conde of Crossfit Infinitas, who are accountable for much of the lifestyle switch I took to become a better version of myself.

The introductory drill of the first-time meet up was simple. The first half was devoted for lecture on which food to take and discard. And my banner says it all - SUGAR is the culprit for the body's degeneration, and it has to be DISCARDED.

In my case, I avoided it at all cost. No rice, no bread, no pasta, no fruits (except avocado) at least for the first 3 months. But I made sure to get my fill of more veggies and good fats as sub for my no-sugar diet. I remember spending the 2017 Christmas eve taking just salad and nothing else, and changes [documented below] started to get noticed.

1. My health numbers went normal. My body mass index is now within the healthy range [20.68 for my 158 cm height and 51.7 kg weight]. My body fat percentage, overall cholesterol profile, and triglyceride level (measure of fats found in blood) are all normal. These measures were based on a legit medical report from our recent company health screening, where my blood sample was taken.

2. My body age dropped to 26. At 32, I regained my pre-wedding look, and I had no problems fitting in to my pre-wedding clothes. I just had to invest on a few pairs of jeans since the most recent ones I was wearing went loose.

3. My personal wellness effort became a family-wide endeavor. My husband noticed these changes, and he became more conscious of his food intake as well. He also made a personal effort to hit the gym at least 3x a week, and even bought a drink supplement to grow his muscles.

4. My social circle got bigger. I did not embark on this journey on my own. Otherwise, I would have quit a long time ago. As with most businesses, you get the most ROI from where you invested the most on. And I am proud to have made this huge investment with a bunch I now consider family. I see my no-to-low sugar intake long term, and I'm happy to bid sugar good bye this early.
